During the Chinese New Year celebration, Chinese people like to greet each other with 吉祥话 (Jíxiáng huà). 吉祥话 literally means lucky phrases, lucky sayings, or lucky expressions. Chinese people use these lucky phrases to express their wishes for health, wealth, and good fortune to each other.

Fun Lucky Phrase for Chinese New Year

It is a custom in China that elderly people give out red envelopes to younger people during Chinese New Year. Within families and close friends, young people would say this phrase especially when they expect to receive red envelopes. But be cautious: don’t use it to strangers or in a formal situation.
