welcome to Day 6 of our 30-Day Thematic Chinese Word Challenge! 🎉
You’ve made it through the first five days – fantastic work! Today, we’re learning another super important category: Personal Pronouns (人称代词 – Rénchēng dàicí)! Pronouns are words like ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘they’ – they replace nouns (like people’s names) and make our sentences much smoother and less repetitive. They are absolutely essential!
Let’s learn the most common personal pronouns in Mandarin Chinese!
Today’s 10 Thematic Words: Personal Pronouns
These words help us talk about ourselves and others. Notice how the plural forms often add 们 (men). Listen carefully to the pronunciation!
我 (wǒ) – I, me
你 (nǐ) – you (singular)
他 (tā) – he, him
她 (tā) – she, her (Note: Same pronunciation as 他, different character!)
它 (tā) – it (Note: Same pronunciation again! Used for objects/animals)
我们 (wǒmen) – we, us
你们 (nǐmen) – you (plural)
他们 (tāmen) – they, them (male or mixed group)
她们 (tāmen) – they, them (female group) (Note: Same pronunciation!)
