Chinese Leveled Readers Level C: 36 Printable Books

€ 49,00

36 printable picture books for beginning readers who are ready for slightly longer sentences. Ten pages each, with mostly real-life photos and a vocabulary list in every book. Every book comes in three versions: Chinese only, Chinese with pinyin, and Chinese with English translation. Each book has a pronunciation video, and a reading log and reading chart help you keep track. Instant download: print, assemble, and read together.

Level C is still beginner-level reading. The words are familiar and the pictures still help. What changes is the sentences: they’re a bit longer, and the structure is more varied, so your child meets new ways of putting words together. Each book runs ten pages and looks at an everyday topic, like going to the supermarket. Some books tell a little story, and others simply share facts about the world around us. It’s a gentle step up for children who are comfortable at Level B and ready for a bit more.

Who Is Level C For?

Level C suits children who read short sentences and short stories with confidence and are ready for slightly longer sentences. Choose by what your child can do, not by age. Our guide to the 5 phases of Chinese literacy development can help you see where they are.

It’s a good fit if:

  • your child has finished Level B, or reads several sentences at a time with ease;
  • your child is ready to meet new sentence patterns, not just repeat familiar ones;
  • your child likes both stories and “real facts” books.

What’s Inside Level C

  • 36 printable books in one download.
  • Three versions of every book: Chinese only, Chinese with pinyin, and Chinese with English translation. The translation helps parents who are still learning Chinese, and gives children a quick way to check meaning.
  • A pronunciation video for each book, so you can hear every sentence, even if your own Chinese is limited.
  • A reading log to record the books your child has read.
  • A reading chart to color in or tick off as the books add up, a small way to celebrate progress.
  • Instant download. Print the pages, assemble them, and you have your own books.

What a Level C Book Looks Like

Each book has ten pages and roughly 50 to 80 words. Every page has a large picture, usually a real-life photo, and one or two short lines of text. Take Going to the Supermarket (去超市): a family shops together, and the pages read 妈妈要买蔬菜 (Mom wants to buy vegetables) and 我们买了很多东西 (We bought a lot of things). The sentences are a little longer than at Level B, and the structures are more varied, so children practice patterns like 要 + verb, 买了, and 很多, with a clear photo showing what’s happening.

  • Slightly longer sentences. A small step up from Level B.
  • More varied sentence structures. Children meet new patterns, with a photo to help.
  • Mostly real-life photos. Most books use photos, so children see the words in the world they know. A few use illustrations instead.
  • A vocabulary list in every book. The book-info page shows the level, the character count, and the words used, so you can see at a glance what your child will meet.
  • Stories and nonfiction. Some books tell a little story, others share facts, which builds vocabulary for the world around us.
  • Ten pages each. Long enough to feel substantial, short enough to finish in one sitting.
  • Familiar vocabulary, used again. Words from earlier levels return, with new ones in context.

How to Use These Books

  1. Print and assemble. Start with a few books. You don’t need all 36 at once.
  2. Read the first one together. Read aloud, or watch the pronunciation video, then let your child take over.
  3. Use the right version. Start with pinyin or English if you need support, then move to Chinese only.
  4. Talk about it. Ask one or two light questions, like “What surprised you?” or “What did we learn?” Skip the quiz.
  5. Reread and track. A second reading is smoother and more fun. Add a mark to the reading chart and fill in the log together.

Short and happy beats long and tense. For more ideas, see our step-by-step guide to Chinese reading, and our post on keeping kids motivated to read Chinese.
