I read an article letter from the Times. It was written by Dr Richard Pike, Chief Executive of Royal Society of Chemistry.
Dr. Pike himself was one of the small group of students who started to learn Japanese when Japan started to become the “Asian giant” in 1970s. He later spent years working in Japan, which helped sharpen his Japanese language skills to a next level. Having benefited much from his Japanese language background, he is now asking more UK students to learn Chinese since, in his words, “Despite China’s growing economic and global significance, the traffic is largely one-way, with thousands of Chinese studying in UK universities.” He said, “If I were 18 now, China and the Chinese language would be my targets”.
Is it also your target?
