I have been learning Chinese for four years, and I love the symbols for the numbers one through ten. I actually really enjoy thinking about the logistics about using just a single symbol for ten over the use of the two conjoined symbols (the Arabic one and zero) that much of the world uses to represent ten.

I began to notice issues though when we began to attempt maths and monetary transactions using the Chinese number system. The biggest issues that I noticed though was in the way that ten was represented with only a single symbol. The decimal system ceases to work effectively using Chinese numbers.

While I love Chinese numbers, I’m afraid I must make the case that while logical they are no longer practical in the day of the decimal. I do appreciate them though for the alternative that they provide and the train of thought they brought me to.

This was a beautifully written article, just like the rest of your website and I love reading through the thought-inspiring works here.
